Director Jane E Ryan
Jane E. Ryan is a nurse, counselor and author of The Boarder, a novel and award-winning screenplay about Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD). Although most remain blind to the malady, after decades of study few professionals understand that children traumatized or neglected in their early lives respond abnormally, or often violently, to love, affection or discipline. Youngsters with RAD occur among all cultures and races, and clearly, no family or country is prepared to deal with such dangerous children.
A British mom nailed the title to Ryan's works when she described disturbed children like hers: “They're like boarders in a boardinghouse – they sleep in your home and eat at your table, but you never really know who they are.” The Boarder, about a family coping with a child with RAD, is based on true experiences of many international families who, like Jane, tried loving the problem away. Sadly, lack of education about effects of interruptions on the bonding process hinders our ability to further their development in healthy ways.
Offering solutions, The Boarder will be filmed in Nebraska, beginning October 11, 2010, and distributed to worldwide film festivals plus those dealing with children's issues. Jane's pockets are shallow, but she says, "This is God's project and if it's supposed to happen everything will come together.”
Early plans look good, but we still need help from concerned people like yourself. With your support, this film can truly increase awareness and improve the status of children and their families everywhere. For those who can't afford big money, a $10.00 donation through the website: www.theboardermovie.com by hundreds or thousands of you will add up and give us the funds needed to complete and distribute this valuable film.
